Apple iPad pre-orders rumoured to be landing on Apple site this week...
The Apple iPad is one of the sensations of 2010, and in spite of a range of criticism, it will undoubtedly fly off the shelves.
That day could be approaching faster than we thought, after rumours surfaced that the Apple iPad pre-orders will begin this Thursday.
Steve Jobs said at launch that the Wi-Fi-enabled iPad would hit the streets 60 days after the announcement (before March 29) but Apple rumour blog Appadvice reckons pre-orders are coming sooner. Pre-orders will be for the Wifi version initially, with the 3G-enabled tablet following later. Initial orders are also likely to be US-only.
One thing the Apple iPad has already achieved, aside from the tiresome Apple-vs-Adobe Flash debate (say HTML5, dare ya) is to stir up the e-book industry into a panic. Barnes and Noble’s Nook and Amazon's established Kindle 2 are under attack by a whole new range of contenders and publishing models.
Whether the Apple iPad comes this week or not, you’ll be hearing a lot more about e-books in the next twelve months than you did in the last ten years…
